Sap & Leaf

Adopt a maple tree. Name it. Taste its harvest.

A real sugar maple at a partner sugar bush in Canada. You choose the region and the name on its tag. A gift box arrives in December, then a spring harvest box from that season’s sap, with news from the sugar bush in between.

How it works

  1. Choose a sugar bush

Pick a region on the map. Each one makes syrup with its own taste.

  2. Name your tree

The name goes on a tag on the tree, on the certificate and on its My Tree page.

  3. Follow it through the seasons

Watch the sugar bush on camera and get news on tapping day, the first run and the boil.

  4. Taste the harvest

A gift box in December. A harvest box in spring, once the season’s syrup is made.

From the sugar bush

Cameras at each partner sugar bush film a section of adopted trees and the evaporator in the sugar shack.

Visitors outside a wooden sugar shack in winter

Cameras go live for sugaring season, around March 2027. Until then, your tree’s monthly photo keeps you posted.

Is the sap running?

A forecast from the weather at each sugar bush, not a measurement. Sap runs when nights freeze and days thaw, usually from March to April.

    Your tree’s year

One photo of your tree every month on its My Tree page, from snow to fall colours.

      Questions

Can I pick where my tree is?

Yes. Choose a sugar bush on the map before checkout. The location is printed on the certificate.

      Is the tree real?

Yes. It is a real sugar maple at a partner sugar bush. It gets a tag with the name you choose, and you receive its photo. In spring its sap is collected and boiled with the rest of the sugar bush’s sap, so your harvest syrup comes from the same sugar bush and the same season as your tree.

      Does tapping hurt the tree?

Not when it’s done properly. Producers only tap a maple once its trunk is about 20 to 25 cm across, which takes decades, and they limit the number of taps to the trunk’s size. The small hole closes over in a season or two, and each spring’s run takes only a small share of the tree’s sap. Many sugar bushes tap the same trees for generations.

      When does each box arrive?

Order by [DATE] and the December box arrives in December. The spring harvest box ships in May 2027, after the sugaring season.

Why does the syrup come in spring?

Sap only runs in late winter and early spring, when nights freeze and days thaw. It is boiled into syrup right away, so the harvest box ships once that season’s syrup is made and graded.

      Can I visit?

Yes, during open days in sugaring season, usually in March and April. Adopters get the dates by email. The rest of the year, the sugar bushes are working farms, so visits are by appointment only.

Is the camera live all year?

Yes, during daylight hours all year, with the most to see during sugaring season in March and April. At night or if a camera is down, you’ll see a message instead of a black screen. Your tree’s monthly photo keeps its album going all year.

Where do you ship, and what does it cost?

We ship within Canada only. Shipping costs $15 per order for both boxes, and it’s free on orders of $150 or more. Deliveries to remote areas can take a few extra days.

Can I add a gift message?

Yes. Before checkout, enter the tree’s name, the recipient’s name and your message. To ship straight to them, enter their address as the shipping address at checkout. Gift boxes never include prices.

What if a bottle breaks, or I want a refund?

If a bottle arrives broken, send us a photo within 7 days and we’ll replace it. Refunds: you can cancel for a full refund until the December box ships. After that, the adoption can’t be refunded, but we’ll always make it right if something goes wrong.

      What about allergens?

The syrup, maple cream, candies and taffy are made from maple syrup. If you have a severe allergy, write to us before ordering and we’ll check with the sugar bush how its products are made. The pancake mix add-on has its own ingredient list, so check its label.

Up to 28 characters, exactly as it should appear on the tag.
We’ll email them a link to meet their tree.
      Included in the December box.

You’ll pay on a secure checkout page. Your tree’s name, location and message are saved with your order.
